How we choose programmes

Real conservation, research, farm or community work.
No hands-on contact with wild animals: no cub petting, walking with lions, bottle-feeding or “orphan” breeding projects.
Volunteering is unpaid. Most programmes charge volunteers a fee, some are free, and the cost is shown upfront: rands in South Africa, US dollars everywhere else.
You apply straight to the programme. We never take a fee.
