Professional Field Guide, Royal Malewane

Royal Malewane, The Royal Portfolio’s lodges in the Thornybush Nature Reserve, Greater Kruger, is always looking for Professional Field Guides to lead its game drives, tracking and bush walks. Nicky Farmer, their Talent Manager, says they are always hiring guides.

The role

• Keep guests safe and in your control at all times, on drives and on foot
• Host guests warmly and personally, and look after the vehicles, firearms and equipment
• Make sure guides and trackers follow the property’s legal procedures
• Keep your qualifications current, including firearm and first aid

What they are looking for

• At least the FGASA Full Lead Trails Guide qualification; Professional Field Guide is an advantage
• Paid-up FGASA membership with logged hours in a Big Five area, and dangerous-game encounters on foot signed off
• CATHSSETA or NDT registration, Advanced Rifle Handling, and SAPS firearm competency for shotgun, handgun and rifle
• A current Professional Driving Permit and First Aid certificate
• Calm under pressure, a strong team player and a clear communicator

Good to know

• Full time, on site; salary negotiable
• Thornybush Nature Reserve requires every staff member to take a pre-employment polygraph test
• South African citizenship is an advantage; non-South Africans need a valid work permit
